Brisbane's Winter Events Calendar: Free Community Activities Fill Up Fast

If your July calendar is still looking bare, it won't be for long. Brisbane City Council’s official 'What’s On' portal is listing thousands of markets, festivals and community events searchable by keyword, date, venue or type, according to the council’s website. And the next fortnight alone brings a pile of options, most of them free.

Mid-winter is typically a quieter stretch for outdoor events, but organisers have stacked the end of July and start of August with major draws. Brisbane Open House returns on July 18-19, opening nearly 100 of the city’s most architecturally interesting buildings to the public, per council listings. The James Street Food + Wine Trail follows on July 26, a free community culinary celebration featuring award-winning chefs and local venues. And Night Feast, Brisbane’s sprawling culinary and cultural festival, runs from July 29 to August 23 with new dates for 2026, according to the council.

For those looking for something this weekend, Eventbrite listings show two community events on July 15-16. Founders' Day 2026 kicks off Friday at 8 AM in Indooroopilly, while Queer Chat at Trinket Trove runs Saturday from 12 PM, also in Indooroopilly. Both are free.
